"REST & READ" with Ease
A Weekend Retreat in Mid Wales
13-16 November 2026
Imagine curling up in front of the fire, stack of books piled high on the blanket beside you, a mug of steaming hot chocolate and a biscuit or two nearby, and nothing to do but take a few slow hours to enjoy this very scene.
No emails to check. No dishes to be washed. No phone calls to answer. No gym class to rush to.
This is exactly what our signature Rest & Read retreat is all about.
And this time, it’s more inviting and luxurious than ever.
In November 2026 this rejuvenating weekend experience, for women who love books but rarely have the time or energy to settle into the joy of reading for pleasure, is heading into a mountainous valley where you’ll be tucked away into a slower pace with nothing to disturb the turn of a page.
Set across a rural landscape of patchwork fields, this beautiful converted farm offers a welcoming space for those of us eager for a little escape. With armchairs in every corner, private writing desks overlooking meadows, and wood-burning stoves inviting you to gather in for warmth, this brand new venue is waiting to level up your retreat experience.
This is your invitation to slow down, pick up that book you've been meaning
to read, and remember what it feels like to lose yourself in a story.
WHERE:
Steeped in Welsh history, Original Hideaways hosts four properties in the village of Trefeglwys, between Llanidloes and Machynlleth, Mid Wales. Across two of these properties spreads 10 en-suite king-size bedrooms available for guests, each with accessible amenities and breathtaking views. Each room is individually curated to offer charm, elegance, and the perfect lighting for reading morning, noon and night.
KEY FEATURES:
Breathtaking location… Surrounded by rolling hills, immersing you in rich, Celtic history. Natural environment… Enabling you to connect with the outdoors, breathe in truly fresh air, and re-engage with a sense of well-being. Opportunities to explore… Wander the farmlands and forest, stumble upon the babbling brook, and stop off in the Welsh-made wood-fired sauna.
A selected book gift shall be sent in the post to each guest prior to the retreat.
We shall discuss the book and enjoy a Q&A with the special guest author.
SPACIAL COMMUNIAL AREAS:
Each of the two guest houses features a large kitchen space, and we will gather together around a welcoming dining table for feasting and engaging in meaningful conversation. Cosy lounge spaces offer the opportunity for time alone quietly reading, or perhaps journaling, or chatting with a new friend about your favourite books. We’ll gather for discussions, workshops, author Q&As, and so much more. And when you’re ready for more alone time, retreat away to your deluxe private quarters to take in a special kind of quiet, just for you.
This delightful retreat provides the ideal environment to disconnect from digital distractions and reconnect with yourself through resting and reading. The combination of breathtaking scenery, comfortable living spaces and thoughtful amenities creates a perfect backdrop for our Rest & Read weekend retreat, allowing you to truly unwind and rejuvenate in a serene setting.
Please note this is a non-alcohol retreat.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
A weekend designed for those who know the magic of words, and need a
little more time to get wrapped up in it.
This isn't a book club. It's not a reading challenge.
It's a sanctuary for women who've forgotten what it feels
like to read for pleasure without the world demanding their attention.
You'll arrive at a beautiful farmland and explore different barns full of shelves lined with books, cosy reading nooks, and windows that frame the Welsh mountains. The weekend unfolds at your pace, no rigid schedules, no mandatory activities, just an invitation to rest deeply and read freely.
YOUR DAYS WILL INCLUDE:
Uninterrupted reading time.
Settle into your favourite spot with a book (or three)
and read for as long as you wish. No interruptions. No guilt.
Indulge in our 'go back to bed' policy.
No alarm clocks. Sleep as long as your body needs.
Wake naturally. Return to bed with a book if that's what calls to you.
(oh, we'll also deliver your morning cuppa straight to your room).
Country walks.
Gentle walks among the hills to clear your
head between chapters or process what you've read.
Nourishing meals.
Healthy, delicious food prepared with care.
Book discussions (optional).
Share what you're reading if you'd like, or keep it private.
There's no pressure to discuss or interact.
Journalling prompts.
For those who want to reflect on what they're reading
or process their thoughts on the page.
Cosy reading nooks.
Roaring fires, blankets, soft lighting, hot drinks.
Everything designed for maximum reading comfort.
Time to simply be.
Rest. Daydream. Stare out at the sea.
Do absolutely nothing if that's what you need.
Hot chocolate ceremony (optional).
The perfect beverage to accompany your book.
Be taken on a journey through the ritual of making a mug of luxury.
Women's circle (optional).
Gentle conversations about books, reading, life.
Only if you want to. Silence is equally welcome.
THIS RETREAT IS FOR YOU IF:
☐You love books but can't remember the last time you read one without distraction
☐ You have a stack of unread books by your bed taunting you
☐ You start books but never finish them because life gets in the way
☐ You miss the feeling of being completely absorbed in a story
☐ You feel guilty taking time to "just read"
☐ You're exhausted and need rest, but also crave something nourishing for your soul
☐ You want permission to do nothing but rest and read without judgment

If you're nodding yes to the above, this retreat is for you!
